A Horse of Course!

Scarlett has been riding horses since she was five years old. However, the pleasure of riding has not gone without a few mishaps in Scarlett’s world of horses.

The high desert country of Arizona offers some of the most beautiful panoramic views of mountains and some of the most glorious sunsets the eye can behold, but it also offers rattlesnakes, javelinas, coyotes, and mountain lions.

Two crushed feet, and a mountain lion in a tree can’t stop Scarlett from riding horses.

Two years ago on an early afternoon ride Scarlett decided to seek some shade under a tree. As She approached the tree, her horse reared up without warning and threw her backwards, plummeting her to the ground. If she hadn’t been wearing a helmet she would have died immediately as her head struck a large boulder. Flat on her back, stunned and half dazed Scarlett open her eyes and looked up into the tree. Starring down at her from one of the high branches was a mountain lion. She knew her shoulder was crushed and her leg and foot throbbed in severe pain. But through it all she managed to get up. The mountain lion just looked down at Scarlett. With adrenalin coursing through her body, Scarlett mustered enough strength to get back on her horse and ride back to the stable. She sustained many injuries including a severely crushed right foot. Scarlett immediately sought the medical experience of Dr. Montes. He did necessary intricate surgical repair work to help get Scarlet back on her feet and doing the thing she enjoyed the most—riding horses.

That’s not the end of the story. A month ago while grooming a horse, it stepped on her left foot severely crushing it. Again Dr. Montes performed intricate foot surgery. Scarlett is convalescing now but it won’t be long before she is back on a horse, of course!
